Why should I come to church?Let’s admit it – there are plenty of reasons not to come! You found church boring in the past; Sunday morning is chance for a lie in; You aren’t the religious type…... Sometimes people have also said that they don’t feel good enough to come to church.Let’s get one thing straight. Church is not for good people. In fact, Jesus said he’d come to help the sick not the healthy! In other words, he’s the friend of those who are prepared to admit that they don’t actually measure up to God’s standard.Church is not really for “religious” people either, although religious people have often hi-jacked it and made it into a religious club that Jesus never intended!! Jesus criticised the religious people of his day, and spent most of his time with the ordinary person in the street. He was angry with the religious people for making up silly rules and rituals which put most people off God. True Christianity means finding a relationship with God through Jesus, but that does not involve acting religious or becoming weird. Christians are normal people (hopefully!) who have found a real and practical faith in Jesus. You might also ask – how can I come to church if I don’t believe. Isn’t that hypocritical? Not at all! We wouldn’t expect you to believe until you’ve had chance to think about it, but you can only do that by coming to find out. Maybe it’s more hypocritical to say “I don’t believe” if we’ve never actually given ourselves the opportunity to check out the evidence. That’s a little bit like saying “I don’t like Guinness ‘cause I’ve never tried it"!We hope you’ll simply come and see. Come and see that church can be relevant to life in the 21st century. Come and see what the message of Jesus really means. Why should I come to church? Bodmin Road Church. Padstow Close. Bransholme. Kingston upon Hull. HU7 4HE.
