The key difference is that we don’t use water to baptise infants. In other respects the ceremony is very similar. We reserve water baptism for anyone age 13 and upwards who has reached a point of personal faith and personal decision to follow Jesus - and we then baptise by complete immersion in our baptism pool as a symbol of sins washed away and a new life started.Christening or Baptism as an infant cannot actually make somebody a Christian. Baptism is only fully meaningful if, as adults, we have come to a definite point of trusting Jesus for forgiveness and for salvation. Our Blessing service for infants actually follows the simple example set by Jesus himself when mothers brought their little children to him (see Mark chapter 10, verse 16). He laid his hands on them and he blessed them.Over the years a great many local children have been blessed at Bodmin Road, and we’d love you to bring your children. There is no charge. Most families who have brought little ones for blessing leave saying how much they enjoyed the service. If you’d like to make arrangements then please use the Contact Us section to ask about fixing a date. Bodmin Road Church. Padstow Close. Bransholme. Kingston upon Hull. HU7 4HE.
