For the last 4 years we have had a service level agreement with Social Services to deliver a local service for Carers. Our Carer Service employs one staff member who in turn co-ordinates a team of volunteers. These volunteers do home visits in order to allow carers to get out for some shopping or just for a change of scenery. We also run special events for carers and for those they care for. In 2008 our volunteer team made just short of 1000 home visits. Overlap with our Café allows people to continue to receive support even beyond the point at which they cease to be a carer – a point when loss of defined role and bereavement often combine to make life very difficult.
